F.I. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Absentee Rules

Please read and follow the link at the bottom of the page to complete the application process.

In the past, an alarmingly high number of unannounced player absences influenced tournament play and player morale in a very negative way. In order to curb this problem, we are instituting the following set of player absence regulations:

A.Tournament Play Eligibility:

  1. If a player knows* that he will not be able to play on either the Friday, the Saturday, or the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, he is not eligible for the tournament play as a full team member. To reiterate, inability to play on any one of these days disqualifies one from entry.

  2. If a player knows* that he will miss 4 or more games during the first 2 weekends of the tournament, he is not eligible for tournament play as a full team member.

  3. If a player knows* that he will miss 3 games during the first 2 weekends of the tournament, his eligibility for tournament play as a full team member will be determined at the discretion of tournament commissioners. (This rule is so that we can decide on a player-by-player basis. It should not be a problem for Millman to miss 3 games, but it certainly would be if Chat missed 3 games again).

  4. If a player knows* that he will miss 0-2 games during the first 2 weekends of the tournament he IS eligible for tournament play as a full team member.

  5. If a player is not eligible for tournament play as a full team member, he is still eligible to play as a temporary substitute during the first weekend of the tournament. Selection of substitutes is at the discretion of the commissioners and the presence/availability of substitutes.

* If there is greater than a 50% liklihood that a player will miss a day of tournament play, he must list that as an absence.

B.Penalties for non-compliance:

  1. A player who fails to list all known absences on his application and subsequently misses a tournament game on one of those known days will be disqualified from tournament play the following year.

  2. All players must provide the commissioners with any updated absence information through the first Friday of August. If between the day he sends in his application and the first Friday of August, a player learns he will miss a day of tournament play and does not report this to the commissioners, he will be disqualified from tournament play the following year.

  3. If a player learns after the first Friday of August that he must miss a game, he must notify his team captain and a commissioner as early as possible and no later than 24 hours before the game. Failure to notify the team captain or a commissioner will result in disqualification from tournament play the following year**.

** All extenuating circumstances will overrule and void disqualification penalty.
